Massage Therapy is Back

Yesterday afternoon, UCP Minister of Health Tyler Shandro in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer of Health announced that some government restrictions are being lifted in regards to Massage Therapy.

This is such great news for many massage therapists in Alberta as well as all of our patients, who rely on massage treatment to maintain their quality of life. It also reflects on the critical importance of registered massage therapy and how important it is for the health & well-being of many Albertans.

We are excited to announce that we are able to see clients again providing services under the following guidelines as provided by the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Alberta:

◆ All clients must have either a written prescription from a Medical Doctor, or a written referral from a regulated health professional (https://www.alberta.ca/regulated-health-professions.aspx)

◆ An existing written prescription is only valid if issued within the last 12 months.

◆ An existing written referral is only valid if issued within the last 12 months.

◆ A copy of the original written prescription or written referral is acceptable.

◆ The written prescription or written referral must be provided prior to receiving treatment.

◆ A copy of the written prescription or written referral must be kept in the client’s file.

Here is a list of Regulated health professions that you are able to obtain your prescription from:

Acupuncturists, Audiologists, Chiropractors, Lab & X-ray Technologists, Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienists, Dental Technologists, Dentists, Denturists, Dieticians, Hearing Aid Practitioners, Licensed Practical Nurses, Midwives, Naturopaths, Occupational Therapists, Opticians, Optometrists, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Pharmacy Technicians, Podiatrists, Psychiatric Nurses, Psychologists, Registered Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Social Workers, Speech Language Pathologists, Physicians, Surgeons and Osteopaths

If you have already have a prescription as part of your health benefits (Alberta Blue Cross, SunLife, etc) please bring that with you as we do not have copies or have your extended health care plan provider fax the copy to us at 780-416-0633.

With all of this being said the clinic will re-open for massage therapy on Monday, Dec 28th. Our online booking system is now available for bookings.

If you already have an appointment booked for next week or in 2021, please ensure that you have a copy of your referral with you for your appointment to be added to your file. Keep in mind the referral note policy has an unannounced duration to it & we will let you know if & when it is no longer required.
